Access your Ultra service with WebDAV

This guide explains how to access and manage files on your Ultra service with a WebDAV-compatible file manager, operating-system network drive, or Rclone.

For background information about the protocol, see the WebDAV overview.

Important: Before using WebDAV for the first time, open your service in the User Control Panel (UCP), navigate to the Overview tab, and select Reinstall Webserver.

WebDAV is currently offered as a beta feature. Ultra may remove it if it adversely affects the platform.

Data downloaded from your Ultra service through WebDAV counts toward your upload bandwidth quota.

Note: WebDAV is intended for WebDAV-compatible clients, network drives, and tools such as Rclone. Opening the WebDAV URL directly in a browser does not provide the same experience as HTTP Access.

Connection Details

WebDAV URL: https://username.hostname.usbx.me/webdav
Username: Your Ultra service username
Password: Your HTTP password

Find or change your HTTP password under the Connect tab in the UCP.

Replace:

username with your Ultra service username.
hostname with the hostname of the server on which your service is deployed.

Choose When to Use WebDAV

Use WebDAV when you want to browse or manage your Ultra service files from a compatible file manager or mounted network drive.
Consider another protocol when appropriate:

For simple browser downloads, use HTTP Access.
For large or long-running transfers, use SFTP, LFTP, or Rclone.
For automated synchronization, use Rclone or another client designed for that workflow.

Configure Windows

Windows limitation: Windows’ built-in WebDAV Redirector has a default transfer limit of approximately 50 MB. Its configurable maximum is approximately 4 GB. Use Rclone or another dedicated WebDAV client when transferring larger files.

Open File Explorer by pressing Win+E.
Right-click This PC.
Select Map network drive.

Select a Drive letter.
Enter the following address in Folder:

https://username.hostname.usbx.me/webdav

Enable Reconnect at sign-in if you want Windows to reconnect after login.
Enable Connect using different credentials.
Select Finish.

Enter your Ultra service username and HTTP password.
Enable Remember my credentials if you want Windows to store the credentials.
Select OK.

The WebDAV connection should now appear under This PC.

Configure macOS

In Finder, select Go → Connect to Server.
Enter the following address in Server Address:

https://username.hostname.usbx.me/webdav

Select Connect.
When prompted, enter your Ultra service username and HTTP password.
To disconnect, locate the server under Locations in Finder and select its Eject button.

Configure Linux

The exact interface and URL scheme depend on your desktop environment and WebDAV client.

GNOME Files

Open Files.
Select Other Locations.
Enter the following address under Connect to Server:

davs://username.hostname.usbx.me/webdav

Select Connect.
Enter your Ultra service username and HTTP password when prompted.

KDE Dolphin

Open Dolphin.
Select Network.
Select Add Network Folder.
Choose WebFolder (webdav).
Enter the following values:

Name: Ultra WebDAV
User: Your Ultra service username
Server: username.hostname.usbx.me
Port: 443
Folder: /webdav/

Enable Use encryption.
Select Save and Connect.
Enter your HTTP password when prompted.
Depending on the client, a secure WebDAV address may use https://, davs://, or webdavs://.

Note: Some Linux WebDAV clients display a warning that the server does not support locks. If the connection completes and you can browse and manage files, this warning does not normally prevent use.

Configure Rclone

Install Rclone on your local device before continuing.
Start the interactive configurator:

rclone config

Create a new remote.
Enter a name for the remote. This guide uses ultra.
Select or enter webdav as the storage type.
Configure the remote with the following values:

URL: https://username.hostname.usbx.me/webdav
Vendor: other
Username: Your Ultra service username
Password: Your HTTP password
Bearer token: Leave empty
Advanced configuration: No

Confirm and save the remote.
Exit the configurator.
Rclone’s storage and vendor option numbers can change between releases.
Select each option by name instead of relying on a particular number.
Confirm that the remote works:

rclone lsd ultra:

Replace ultra if you used a different remote name.

Transfer Files With Rclone

Upload a local directory:

rclone copy /path/to/local/directory ultra:/destination

Download a remote directory:

rclone copy ultra:/source /path/to/local/directory

Delete a specific remote file:

rclone deletefile ultra:/path/to/file

Warning: Use deletion commands carefully. Rclone operations modify the files stored on your Ultra service.

To mount the remote as a filesystem, follow the Rclone mount documentation. Rclone mount supports Linux, FreeBSD, macOS, and Windows.

Troubleshooting

Authentication Fails

Confirm that you are using the HTTP password, not your UCP account password or SSH password.
Confirm that the username and hostname match the values shown for your service in the UCP.
Confirm that the URL ends with /webdav.
Reinstall the webserver from the service’s Overview tab if WebDAV has not previously been enabled.

Windows Reports a File-Size Error

Use Rclone or another dedicated WebDAV client.
Do not rely on Windows File Explorer for files approaching or exceeding 4 GB.

Linux Reports That Locks Are Unsupported

Check whether the connection still completes.
If you can browse and manage files, the warning can normally be ignored.

Limitations

WebDAV is currently a beta feature.
Downloads over WebDAV count toward the service’s upload bandwidth quota.
Plain WebDAV may not preserve every filesystem feature, modification time, or hash.
Performance depends on the client, local connection, file size, and workload.
WebDAV is intended for private file access and should not be treated as a replacement for a supported media-streaming application.
