Rclone Mount on Apple Silicon
Create an Rclone Mount on Apple Silicon
This guide covers Macs with Apple silicon. Intel-based Macs may also work, but they are outside the scope of this guide.
Install Homebrew
Homebrew is a package manager for macOS. It lets you install command-line tools such as macFUSE and Screen.
You can find out more here: https://brew.sh/

- Run the following command:
sudo -v ; curl https://rclone.org/install.sh | sudo bash- Create the mount folder:
mkdir -p ~/Documents/RcloneCreate a Rclone Remote to Connect to your Ultra service

Configure Mac Permissions for FUSE
The first time macFUSE loads, macOS may prompt you to allow its system extension. Follow the on-screen prompt and the current macFUSE installation instructions.
On Apple silicon, enabling third-party kernel extensions may require starting macOS Recovery, selecting Reduced Security, and enabling Allow user management of kernel extensions from identified developers. Only change these settings if macFUSE prompts you to do so. After restarting, open System Settings → Privacy & Security, allow macFUSE if requested, and restart again.
Test the Rclone Mount
- Install screen using brew as it will allow you to keep the mount running without leaving a command window open.
brew install screen- Next, create a screen session. In this example, we will name it
mounttest.
screen -S mounttest- Next, execute the below command to mount your Rclone remote.
- Make sure to replace
remotenamewith the name you have configured for your Rclone remote.
rclone mount remotename: ~/Documents/Rclone --vfs-cache-mode writes- To confirm that the mount is accessible, list its contents:
ls -la ~/Documents/Rclone- To detach from the Screen session, press
Control+A, thenD. - The Rclone remote will continue to be mounted in the background.
- Now you can navigate to your Documents folder and you should see your Rclone mount.
